Software Catalog

The Software Catalog provides a district-wide inventory and review surface for instructional and operational applications.

Application record

  • Application name, website, vendor, description, and optional logo URL.
  • Lifecycle status: active, inactive, or archived.
  • District subject-matter contact and vendor-support information.
  • DPA status: none, pending, approved, declined, or not required.
  • Purchasing site and sites where the application is used.
  • Rostering method, such as ClassLink, Clever, Microsoft 365, or Canvas.
  • Tags for search and reporting.

Terms and privacy review

  • Enter the URLs for the application’s terms of service and privacy policy.
  • When a site blocks automated retrieval, paste the policy text directly.
  • Run the built-in analysis. Review the surfaced concerns through a K–12 lens, including age restrictions, parental permission, data practices, and district obligations.
  • Treat the analysis as decision support, not an automatic approval or legal conclusion.
  • Publish the appropriate status and explanation. Submitters can see the review, which helps explain why a particular use is approved or declined.

Compliance lens: The playlist references FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA considerations. District review and counsel remain authoritative for actual approval decisions.

Dependent domains

Run Crawl Now to identify domains requested when the application loads. SupportStudioK12 categorizes observed dependencies—for example, required functions, optional services, analytics, or advertising—along with frequency information. Export the result as CSV to support content-filter troubleshooting and allow-list work.

Submitter versus staff access

Submitters can search and view published catalog information, including use status and privacy context. Technicians and administrators receive additional editing and analysis capabilities. The initial playlist notes that teacher-submitted application-review requests were on the roadmap at that time, not yet released.
